Red XIII (Nanaki)

Red XIII, as he was named by Hojo, is actually a creature from Cosmo Canyon named Nanaki. His parents died bravely defending the canyon from the Gi, but as Nanaki did not know the truth, he thought his father, Seto, had fled in fear. In actuality, Seto had been turned to stone in the fight. When Nanaki's adoptive grandfather, the wise man and astronomer Bugenhagen, tells Nanaki the true story, his pride in his family is renewed.
Red XIII was captured by Hojo, head scientist of Shinra, Inc., and was meant to be experimented on. However, Hojo's plans were interrupted when Cloud and his friends stormed the research lab to save Aeris, Red XIII's co-specimen. Afterwards, Red travels with them back to Cosmo Canyon, where Bugenhagen convinces him to help them throughout the rest of their journey...
